- Canadians get free ISBNs (ebook and hardcopy). Just apply at http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/ciss-ssci/
- Americans can get a free ISBN for their ebooks at Smashwords.
- Free Online Barcode Generatorto get the barcode for your book.
- Join the Writer’s Market.
- Collaborate at the Writer’s Digest Community.

When you start marketing your book (the other 95% of the work to be done, whether you self-publish or go through a publisher), here are some resources I have used:
- Spam checker: check your emails, and get them rated to find out if they will actually land in the trash or if they will get through the spam checker. BTW, please don’t ever spam. Ever. A tool is only as good as its employer.
